Legal help for UNISON members

UNISON provides a very wide range of legal help to union members across the UK. We offer advice and assistance with work issues of course, but we can sometimes also offer legal help for members and their families outside work.

Benefits for UNISON members

Your membership benefits: At work

At work
All UNISON members can get free legal advice and help with work-related issues (provided you have been a member for at least four weeks before you knew you needed legal help and sought that help from UNISON. You must also be up to date with your subscriptions). Our help covers issues like unfair dismissal, accidents and injuries at work.

  • Employment problems
  • Injuries/accidents
  • Work-related criminal cases
  • Clinical negligence

Your membership benefits: For you and your family

For you and your family
UNISON members can access free legal advice on non-work related issues. Free legal advice, a free wills service, low-cost conveyancing and help with immigration issues are among the services we offer.

Your membership benefits: Access to legal services

Access to legal services
For work-related issues members should contact their local branch in the first instance. For non work-related issues, help can be accessed via UNISON's legal helpline on 0845 355 0845.

Personal Injury - important notice

Due to changes in the law that came into effect from 1 April 2013, UNISON’s Personal Injury (PI) Forms are now out of date and should not be filled in by members as they cannot be processed by the branch. This applies to both work-related and non-work related injury claims.

Instead, if members are in need of legal assistance for any kind of personal injury claim, they should now call 0845 355 0845 and ask to be put through to Thompsons Solicitors who will handle the matter directly.

Access to other legal services

UNISON only instructs specialist lawyers. Our lawyers work to agreed standards of service required by us and are audited and judged against those standards.
